Things I Heard as an Elementary Art Teacher — Part 14
“The Most Stressful Day” Edition

*trigger warning* — blood
Although the day kept slapping me across the face with a stress-colored glove, the teacup humans were able to give me some hilarious perspective.
- Woke up to a brutal thunderstorm. The forecast originally predicted that it’d be a hot and sunny day. Turns out it was hot and stormy. Miz Bones Optimism Level: 6/10.
- When I got to my car and plugged in my phone, my battery was at 30%. Not unusual, but not ideal. Miz Bones Optimism Level: 5/10
- Everyone in the city had forgotten how to drive in the rain. Traffic was crawling. I abandoned my original plan to get Starbucks so I could get to work faster. Not the first mindset pivot I’d have to endure that day. Miz Bones Optimism Level: 4/10
- No power at school. Lightning had struck a power line behind the playground, sending my building into (what felt like) “Little House on the Prairie.” School would continue, but electricity might not be restored until noon. No electricity meant everyone’s lesson plans had to be modified — no computers, no smart TV, no charging my phone. But these children are resilient and were excited that they got to have “Slumber Party Art Class.” Miz Bones Optimism Level: 8.5/10
“I didn’t know there were windows in this room! I’m usually looking at all the other creepy stuff!” — Edgar, 4th Grader
